It’s 3:17 am and I am in between my first and second sleep, as usual my mind is pinball machine with a little silver ball of thoughts going around and around, popping up and sliding down- going from thought to thought. It’s been rough, these past few weeks with chaos, destruction and death; and the news and media seem filled with hot topics while the heat is adding to our collective discomfort. A gentle breeze is tickling the chimes outside our window and a few acorns have dropped on our roof while beside me my sleeping partner is breathing slowly and peacefully, our little dog’s paws are gently flicking my leg as she is running through some forest in her dreams and our big dog is softly barking at a squirrel in her reverie during this all too familiar scenario of insomnia; an inherited trait passed down my family line from my great grandmother, Minnie. I turn on my tiny book light attached to my current book, for I must have a book at the side of my bed for these inevitable bouts of sleeplessness. Currently I am reading ‘Beyond War’ by Douglas P. Fry as I have been searching for solace from the negative messages relentlessly permeating our world. Last week’s deluge of Agent Orange blown through the media via a convention has me in search of positive viewpoints. It was ugly and it was loud.

(AUTHOR’s NOTE: After witnessing, on the morn of the Democratic Convention, Bernie Sanders’ failed bid – a la Marc Antony’s funeral peroration for Julius Caesar -- to mollify his impassioned followers and convince them to vote for Hillary Clinton. I became convinced that prose alone is insufficient to describe the plight of the Democratic Party on the cusp of its attempt to nominate Hillary Clinton as its candidate for the presidency.

A definition of Negrophobia: An intense and irrational dislike / fear of Black people, their culture and their success as they strive to achieve their version of the American Dream.
There is a foul and violent storm blowing slowly across the United States of America. It’s not a storm formed by a massive collection of heavily swollen cumulonimbus clouds that are ready to burst and beget thunderstorm after thunderstorm. Instead, it’s a “metaphysical storm” that’s spawned from the cruelest and darkest regions of our mind. Fueled by sociopathic behavior, rage and sometimes hopelessness, this “storm” threatens to corrupt and devour as many sane minds that it possibly can, ultimately leaving behind an unnatural devastation that strongly reeks of dead bodies, a parent’s tears, rage and bitterness.

“If you’re not on the bus, we’ll run over you with the bus. And I’m not kidding.” —John Kasich, (then) governor-elect of Ohio, at a 2010 luncheon for state lobbyists

Not so long ago it seamed that there was a pretty general divide. One side believed that winning was the only goal and no method was out of bounds to achieve that win..In doing so the abandoned any honor or reason, and made corruption an ideology. The other side, believing in honor and reason, frequently got rolled and beat up,not understanding the power that was available to them. Not always cleanly defined and values slipped from time to time, and of course mixed victories and defeats.

“Let’s move it on – nothing more to see here!” Although FBI Director James Comey gave a full, uncomplimentary report on the email server investigation of Hillary Clinton, it was sweet music to the ears of Hillary and her high-stepping horde of wheelers, dealers and ward-heelers. She will not be indicted; the Oval Office will go distaff! To no one’s surprise, Lord Acton’s adage is on full display: “Power tends to corrupt; and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Big men are almost always bad men.” Post the 19th Amendment, we are dealing in the very highest level of power on the world stage. Should any naïf harbor illusions about the equality of justice in our fair nation, he/she should seriously consult the whole of American history.
