We Did It Again

Alright, I’m done crying (well, almost). And I’ve polished off more than one batch of chocolate chip cookies- don’t judge me. I’m through the denial, past the depression, not bothering with bargaining.....yet. So I am now into acceptance. I accept that the Democrats have lost another damn election! And we are doing what we do best- argue and blame. I accept that we have shot ourselves in the foot and are going to be hobbling through the next 4 years. Oh, some are already talking about stand and fight, and sure, we should. May I make a suggestion? We change our $%^ing strategy! Come on Dems, we keep doing the same thingand expecting different results. You know? The definition of stupid? Of course we don’t think of ourselves as stupid- quite the contrary, we think we are pretty darned smart. Heck, we’ve have the books, home libraries, degrees, careers, the IQ’s, and the paychecks to prove it. And don’t we love to flash them about? Before you get offended and accuse me of judging you, let me tell you first; I’m including myself. I also, liked reading those articles that showed scientific proof of the less education of the typical GOP voter. It made me feel right. Turns out I was really wrong. Turns out the polls were wrong. While we were pouring over our “History of the American Presidential Races”, the charts, the statistics, the pundits, the graphs and comparing notes on which candidate was where at every point of the campaign we weren’t listening. As you can tell, I’m in the anger stage. I’m angry with myself and with the rest of my fellow liberals and Democrats and Independents. We thought we were so fricking smart. And we lost. Bigly.

DEMOCRACY --- A PERSPECTIVE

Written by: Curtis W. Long

Published: November 10, 2016

We were not invaded. No towers fell. November 9 dawned the same as November 8. What is our problem? Why do we think we spent the last two years squabbling over who is to sit in the Oval Office? After all that din and invective, it is decided. We made our choice. It is over, until it starts again. It is called, “Democracy” – the noblest form we humans have for controlling our collective opinions and emotions. A peaceful transition; no troops in the streets; we all go about our business, as usual; sure, there are tears and recriminations; there are demonstrations. That’s fine --- that is what it’s all about. But, more importantly, it is over – until the next time. What more do we want?

FROST, YOGI AND THE PIED PIPER

When Robert Frost was presented with an alternative route, he took, “...the one less traveled.” Poor Yogi Berra, who said, “When you come to a fork in the road, take it,” suggested going around in circles, unable to make up one’s mind. The Pied Piper of Hamlin was very deliberate when he chose a path C that led the unsuspecting directly into the sea.

Relating to Trump

To get into the mind of a Trump supporter seems like an impossible task at first. However, like their values and sentence structure, it is quite simple. After speaking with over 70 Trump supporters, they are not as excited for Trump as they are filled with hatred for Clinton. I have heard Trump fans call Hillary names, regurgitate falsehoods, and simply make up stuff on the spot about her. But why? Is it as simple as being sexist? I do not think it is just that. I feel that just saying these people are sexist is like picking a leaf from a rose bush and calling it a bouquet. There are many reasons why they dislike Hillary and it has very little to do with who she actually is or what she stands for as a political figure.

Let's NOT go back

We had a great dad, didn't we? Old George, he really knew how to handle us. Remember when he won that war for us? We almost thought we were to lose but he kept us going. And don't forget how he got all of our brothers and uncles and cousins to create an almost perfect union. Almost perfect. I mean nothings perfect. We know that. And Dad knew that, he knew they hadn't created heaven. He and our brothers and uncles got it just about right. When it was time for them to go they handed our great grandfathers and great uncles the country, respectfully, and said, "We think you can handle this." And they did.

GREAT TRUMPKIN’S PATCHWORK PREDICAMENT

Written by: Curtis W. Long

Published: October 24, 2016

As All Hallows Eve approached, that autumn in question, the visage of Great Trumpkin (GT) was fraught with much consternation. As the setting, Indian Summer sun hesitantly shone upon his carefully coiffed, conrnsilk pompadour, GT commiserated with the lesser Trumpkins about the self-produced perplexities of his plight. You see, for the first time in memory, GT’s infallibility was being questioned. For time immemorial, GT had been the undisputed leader of the Multipatch Protectorate of Edibles in Transition (MUPPET). For the first time in vegistory a Trumpkin was being challenged by a different variety of plant life for the governing control of Muppettonia. As a matter of fact, the Trumpkin control of Muppettonia had been so absolute that the outside challenge to the current GT was so jarring that it momentarily scrambled his squash. His challenger was haughty Clarrlot from Tuberville. She carried the same hue as his, but the Clarrots were from a different level of development in Muppett lore. Thus it was, as Hallows Eve drew nigh.
