At first glance, Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders would appear to be swinging on opposite poles. In a sense, yes, but look closely, and you can see their arcs merge:
• Neither is a party regular
• Both were regarded dismissively when they began their run
• Both placed their respective party hosts in a pot of water, on a low flame
• Each one now is watching his respective party squirm, as the water begins to boil
• Both claim to represent a new movement.
This situation is ripe for metaphor; the reality even more fruitful.

It would be logical for a careful observer of the American scene to deduce that the current, seismic, political upheaval we are experiencing is due to the latest subsuming action of the underground, racial plates of “Planet America.” Alexis de Tocqueville, in his two-volume, “Democracy in America,” in the 1830s, gives an assessment of the new republic. Over all, he was amazed at how former British subjects were able to so effectively carve out of the wilderness such a refuge of freedom for themselves. Tocqueville also noted that, “an abyss of evil” had been opened in this process when two other peoples, utterly and differently, were assigned subhuman status. By predicting that the imported Negro never would leave America’s shores, Tocqueville foreshadowed the grand schism that was to take place 3 decades later – and the fallout that would follow us into the new millennium!

Avant le déluge: Incredibly, against an impending Trump victory, longtime GOP faithful Mr. Moneybags, mega-billionaire Charles Koch (pronounced “Coke”), announced that if Donald Trump were to become the Republican candidate for the presidency, he would be inclined to vote for Hillary Clinton!!!

A basketball hoop in Spanish is, “aro de baloncesto” The word, “aro” means “hoop” or “ring.”
Senator Ted Cruz is being lambasted for describing a basketball “hoop” as a “ring.” His only “error” therein is word choice. We Americans are so unilnguistic that we are unforgiving if the sound of a word reaching our eardrums is slightly off-kilter. In this case, it caused us to become unhinged.

EXCERPT: Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto has compared the rhetoric of US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump to that of German Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.
A recent trip to the City of Brotherly Love put the lie to the title of the cult hit TV show, but proved to be an emotional and educational trip.
The occasion for the visit was the kick-off rally for the Democracy Spring March on Washington. Curtis W. Long, in conjunction with Musical SoCal, had written an anthem for the cause and I wanted to show in person, the support for the cause that IFZ has shown online since its birth, through articles, videos and Facebook advertising campaigns.

The constant rain that dampened the activities of the kick-off rally on Saturday, April 2nd, seemed to be a metaphor for what ails the organizers of Democracy Spring.org. The idea was to meet in joyous communion at Liberty Bell Center in Philadelphia’s Historic District and begin a march to Washington, D.C. That would culminate in provocative but peaceful demonstrations intended to bring national attention to the failure of Congress effectively to deal with the excess of money in politics and a host of other outstanding matters it has been ignoring. That was/is the plan, which appears to be dissolving in the soggy forecast of that kick-off Saturday.

March is an eventful month. It begins in winter conditions and ends with pre-spring weather. Daylight savings time pushes clocks forward, and Women’s History is officially recognized. “Beware the ides of March”, a line from Shakespeare’s play about Julius Caesar, is brought to mind and, in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day in the USA, many a green beer is consumed.

Would applaud this march, to a man.
