On inauguration day, this country will in effect be run by a white supremacist clique. That is an undeniable fact. The specifics of actual damage is yet to be seen, but the possibility that there will be none, is close to zero.

Skatingdrome USA was crowded for the competition. Show-off DJT arrived late, but with great fanfare. He donned his skating attire through a non-stop torrent of egoistic bravura. The contestants in the preliminary skate-down regarded him with disdain. – as it turned out, to their peril!

Now What?

Last night 12 sad, angry people entered our local library’s meeting room. We all seemed to have the same look of despair and defeat. “How are you?” we asked each other and the answers were all similar; Depressed. Sad. Disbelief. One woman said, "I'm pissed." We had gathered at the invitation of 2 local women and the topic was to be: “Where Do We Go From Here?” We went around the room introducing ourselves, giving a little bio to the others about who we were, what we are worried about and what we hoped to achieve. Two of the people are currently members of our town council and of our local water board. They also are concerned and have the experience of holding public to understand the magnitude of what it takes to run just a local government. They grasp the challenge ahead of accomplishing and preventing devastating changes in policies and laws that we are looking at with a Minority President and a GOP controlled Congress.

OH, Ohio! (Part 3)

The Republican National Convention came to Ohio, July 2016, enticing an evil cadre of cronies who grovel at the feet of the Republican Party’s ‘Macbeth’ - Donald J Trump.

MacBethTrumpTrump, whose political ambitions gave rise to “a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury” got the required Electoral votes to win on election night 2016. And Ohio, my home state, was one of the first important swing states to fall into the bubbling cauldron of “double, double toil and trouble”, turning the roiling brew of “United States of America” into a toxic oxymoron.

MAKING AMERICA HATE AGAIN

Written by: Curtis W. Long

Two hundred and forty years ago, a group of gentlemen pledged their, “Lives and fortunes” to a cause that seemed insurmountable and an idea they knew, in their time, to be unobtainable. The cause was won, but the idea has had slow progress. Currently, it has reached a point that would be unimaginable to that group of founding gentlemen. Nevertheless, despite innumerable setbacks, and albeit molasses-slow, one step up always led to another in the same direction. With the election of the latest executive officer in that system so precariously founded, there are indications that that upper progression of steps could be in jeopardy.

OH, Ohio! (Part 4)

This election has left me brokenhearted. Ohio, my home state, was one of the first swing states to fall into the dark pit of acquiescence to totalitarian rule by a divisive, self-absorbed demagogue.

As I watched the election results come in on Nov. 8, 2016, when Ohio went to the GOP for president, it felt like a gut-kick. Oh, Ohio, how could you be so unkind? I am wounded. I am grieving.

The judge is on the bench. He is wearing a huge sombrero. He has Mexican Revolutionary-style, crossed cartridge belts over both shoulders, with a serape hanging down on one side. Mariachi music is playing, and a packed courtroom is tossing multicolored streamers. Donald Trump enters the courtroom.

World Turned Upside Down

What now?

When the American Revolution came to an end after the siege of Yorktown, legend has it that General Cornwallis ordered his band to play an old English ballad called “The world turned upside down” as his army came out in surrender to George Washington. For me and more than half this country, that is the feeling that greeted us on waking Wednesday morning. All that we knew, expected and hoped for had been dashed.
