Douglas Hughes, whom IFZ has immortalized in word and song as, "Superhero Autogyro," responds to an inquiry about his latest court appearance.
Doug Hughes is the pilot who flew his gyrocopter into Washington, D.C. and landed on the lawn of the Capitol Building. As a USP employee, Doug was merely making a mail delivery of 535 letters to each of our national congress people, urging them to take action against to the out-of-hand amounts of secretive money that stains our electoral system. He is still paying the price for his very highly-skilled effrontery.

You know, it seems like just a couple of months ago I posted a rant about how Americans are becoming mean, small minded and a bunch of p####s when it comes to showing compassion to people from other countries who are in desperate need of help. That time I was talking about the children showing up at our southern border from Central and South America. Today, I need to do it for the refugee crisis in Europe.

The U.S. has always been wishy-washy when it comes to war. There was a time when newspapers unduly influenced foreign policy. *"Remember the Maine," they ballyhooed when a U.S. warship mysteriously blew up in Cuba's San Juan Harbor. In heeding that cry for revenge, we drove the Spanish out of the Caribbean and took possession of Puerto Rico. That was a major triumph for, "Yellow Journalism."

I began to think at parties. You know, just a little now and then -- to loosen up. Inevitably, though, one thought led to another, and soon I was more than just a 'social thinker'. I began to think alone -- 'to relax', I told myself. But even back then I knew it wasn't true.

The hosts of a radio talk-show were musing about the surging popularity of Ben Carson. They were wondering why he does not attract the same support from the African American community as did Barack Obama. Generally, these hosts are quite astute in assessing the political scene and life in general. In this case, however, they reveal how they, and many of our fellow Americans, carry around this one sliver of ignorance about our country. It is not our fault; that wall of ignorance was very carefully and purposefully constructed.

The President speaks at Arlington National Cemetery with the same old platitudes about what we owe the veteran, etc. Other politicians bluster on with their own versions of veteran-guilt. Literally, they are whistling past the graveyard.

"And may I ask you, 'What took you so long?" the interviewer at Immigration and Naturalization asked me.
I had to chuckle a little bit. I had been living in the United States for about 30 years at the time I applied to become a citizen. I had a lot of time to think about it. There were a few reasons, I sometimes thought I may want to return to the home of my birth. After my son was born I argued with myself that I wanted to keep an option open in case he didn't want to become a soldier. I also felt that if a person were to change their citizenship, which was really changing their loyalty, they had better be 100% positive. I didn't think changing one's allegiance should be taken lightly.

Regardless of whether the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) did or did not bring down the Russian airliner, what is certain is that it has acquired Vladimir Putin as a mortal enemy. One wonders if they fully comprehend the significance of their act or stated complicity therein. They have just pissed off the craziest, vainest, most vengeful, KGB-trained, nuclear-powered national leader on the world stage, whose role as a serial assassin is an open secret!
