What does it take to be a really good president? What work experience would be useful to someone seeking the highest political office in this country? Have you ever really sat down and thought about this? The idea came to me out of the blue the other day and caused me to consider the qualities and qualifications of a president in a whole new way.

More shocking than the sudden news that upwards of 6,000 federal prisoners have been granted early release by the U.S. Sentencing Committee Program, is the fact that it was accomplished with the blessing of both the Obama Administration and Koch Industries!!!

A good friend asked me to go with him to a political forum and, as usual, I jumped at the chance. It was a democratic 'friend-raiser' featuring one of our local candidates as speaker. As it was wrapping up, the candidate was asked a common question the Left has a 'stock' answer for, and he gave it;
The demise of the Fairness Doctrine has haunted me since 1987, when it was stricken down by Reagan's FCC chairman, Mark Fowler. You may be forgiven if you're not familiar with the niceties of the Fairness Doctrine itself, but you'd have to have been locked in a darkened, sound proof room these last 27 years to be unaware of the the flood of communications woes its repeal has unleashed.

So, I was having dinner last night with some friends and (surprise!) the conversation turned to politics. After a few minutes, I came to a pretty stunning realization. It seems a few of my friends - all of them educated, successful and (I thought) fairly politically savvy folks - were basically taking the various candidates statements at face value. This really surprised me and after a few minutes I found myself trying to explain to this group a few facts they seemed to not be aware of.

This is something I have been thinking a lot about lately - as I assume many of us have. It seems to me, and I'm sure I can find supporting evidence with very little effort on the Internet, that these 'rampage shooting' events in the news are happening more and more often. When I was a kid you hardly ever heard about them. Today, statistically, we have over one per month. What the hell changed?

Hillary Clinton's ready and heady, raucus laugh serves as an immediate icebreaker for her sometimes icy demeanor. It does her well on the stump and elsewhere. Recently, she has had a lot to laugh about:
• She won the first Democratic Presidential Debate
• Her leading competitor in the debate relieved her of one of her stickier campaign issues
• The vice president withdrew from the race
• A hearing designed to ruin her politically gave her eleven hours of uninterrupted, positive TV coverage on all three major cable news channels.
I met a man, his wife and two beautiful daughters in my doctor's waiting room yesterday. They were obviously Muslim and looked to be Arab. One of the little girls was very young and adorable, so I asked how old she was. The man looked surprised to be addressed by a stranger in public but said "6 months". I said she was beautiful. He smiled slightly.

*The term, House Nigger (HN), dates back to the time of slavery. HNs were the domestic servants who lived in and maintained the family residence of the estate owner. They, presumably, enjoyed relatively good accommodations and treatment. The HNs were distinguished from the, Field Niggers (FN), who planted and harvested from sun-up to sun-down, felt the lash occasionally, and suffered subsistence living conditions. The HNs, in order to maintain their more comfortable status, effected an obedient and submissive posture – which rendered them blind, deaf and dumb with regard to the family's affairs. The natural resentment from the FNs converted, House Nigger into a term of derision and disrespect.
