Needy
_________________________
I couldn't breathe
and I asked for a drink
He obliged because
he loves me, I think.
But it turns out
so in this life
he did not want
a lover or wife.
He wanted what
everyone else did
and one day soon
I will go again for bid.
I have always been there
no matter what
to help him grow
..even humored his slut.
I have loved him
in everyway a woman can,
yet he cannot give back,
that is no man.
He is the one who should
feel shameful and greedy
but yet he complains
that I'm the one who is needy.

Today I had the extreme pleasure of making a customer service call to a worldwide electronics manufacturer, it’s not important which company because that will distract from the point of my article.
A few months ago a 68-year old lady from Colorado shocked the world by competing in a cage fight against a woman who was not even half her age. Many thought she was insane for doing that. But even though she did not win that particular fight, what she did win was the respect of many people of all ages who now see her as an inspiration.

One of the satisfying things about social media is stumbling upon an idea or person who shares the same idea as you, it’s a sigh of relief, “Ah, I’m not alone in this thought- there is someone else who sees the world from a similar perspective.” We humans are herd creatures, we like to be around others like ourselves and when we feel alone we are uncomfortable. Previous to the World Wide Web I often found myself surround by humans yet still felt alone in a crowded room because I had to watch what I said out loud, sometimes I would even hide the cover of a book or magazine I was reading to avoid ridicule or confrontation. While I love the many people in my private life, I don’t always share the same views and ideas that some of them do, I frequently find myself the odd man out in philosophical and political discourse. In the past when I did not agree with their views I was pleasantly told I was naïve and uninformed. I don’t have an eidetic memory and previous to the internet and social media it wasn’t feasible to carry around a set of encyclopedias, so I usually took the jibes and suffered in silence replaying in my mind the answer I should have given long after the conversation was over.

When I was much younger, I helped make ends meet by singing in a band called “The Rebel Angels”. I was recently divorced, working full-time and raising three children – ages ten, five and four – pretty much on my own, receiving scant financial support from my ex-husband. Thankfully, my parents would watch my children when my band performed.

In a historic speech in Havana, Cuba, a president of the United States used no palliative terms to soften his description of the role played by both the government of the U.S. and that of the Republic of Cuba in sustaining the ridiculous Mexican standoff that has spanned the entirety of that same president’s very life! For the moment, that speech, which will shine in the annals of U.S. presidential profiles in courage, could have been delivered only by the likes of Barack Hussain Obama. The travel on that road toward enshrinement will of necessity be delayed, due not only to the horrendous images forthcoming from Europe, but also by the negative din emanating from the U.S. political cacophony.

The most recent news from Missouri on the LGBT (brought on by legal gay marriage) front is that of a 39-hour filibuster held March 9th, 2016. The discussions were regarding the “rights” of business owners to refuse services and/or goods to gay couples simply because of the business owners’ belief systems. In other words, if you are a religious business owner, there are Republicans who are fighting for your right to deny people goods and/or services because of how you feel about their lifestyle choices. That means that when you turn away a LGBT person, you cannot be held liable for discrimination. This discussion has no mention of the “rights” of gay business owners who would like to reject Christian or other religious people... but then again, gay people are not fighting for that “right.” The reason? Because they are not discriminatory assholes. Also, they could not stop gay marriage, so they are discriminatory, whiny assholes.
It was Monday morning and I was catching the 6 train to work a little later than I should. The door opened and I jumped in the train.
“Hey, would you like to sit here?” an elderly man enthusiastically offered me his seat.
