breaking news

LINCOLN, NEBRASKA (IFZ)  In what an interviewed neighbor described as ”a hail of gunfire”, Bill Hedge, a prominent local resident, was killed in his home.  In that Lincoln, Nebraska ”explosive horror”, as another neighbor recounted it, his wife barely survived her injuries.  The couple’s six-year-old child did not.  Six other men were also shot, four of them fatally.  Tragically, a responding Sheriff’s deputy also succumbed to his wounds, despite “heroic efforts to save him,” as stated by ER head nurse, Barbara Adams.

According to Mrs. Hedge, loud banging from the front door had awakened them at approximately three in the morning. Upon opening her phone’s ring camera app,  confirmed by the security system’s cloud recording, two masked men, carrying assault style weapons, stood by the door, with one of them also wielding a hand-held battering ram.

Mr. Hedge, a respected architect and Second Amendment proponent, kissed his wife lightly on the cheek, she recalled from her hospital room in tears.  She described how he had whispered for her to call 911, before jumping barefoot to their weapons locker, entering the code and yanking out his registered AR-15.

Explaining it as waiting for what “seemed like forever for 911 to pick up”, she saw him cautiously walk out of their bedroom towards the front door.  In a firm, clear tone of voice, he uttered what his wife defined as the final words she would ever hear from him: ”Be aware that I am armed.  Cease and desist!”  Those exact words were confirmed by the home security system’s cloud recording of the event.

She reported how one of them had shouted, “Put your weapon down!”  The recording confirmed that the other masked man had then screamed, “Open your mo#thrf#ckin’ door right now or we will bust it down!”

In the next moment, according to the evidence, the door split partially open from the force of the battering ram.  It was then that Mrs Hedge heard her husband’s semi-automatic rifle fire off the eight rounds through the door which had killed the two.

Other masked men, who had surrounded the house, responded by opening fire randomly into the family home with fully automatic weapons, instantly killing Mr. Hedge, Kelly, their six-year-old daughter, and critically wounding his wife, Cynthia. Rex, the family Labrador Retriever, also did not survive.

Dozens in the neighborhood, awakened by the tumult, had also called 911. The first Sheriffs patrol to arrive on the scene were met by what Sergeant Janet Abernathy reported as “a bloody carnage reminiscent of my days as a Marine Corporal in Iraq.” They confronted the heavily armed men, and, with K9 units holding back two excitedly barking dogs, told them to throw down their weapons. The men refused, with one of them shouting, “Back off!  This is above your pay scale!”

With a megaphone, Sergeant Abernathy repeated their commands one more time and told them to “Drop your weapons or we will not hesitate with deadly force!”  Again, one of the masked men shouted back,“This is none of your business!” It is not clear who fired first, but in the ensuing fusillade, four of the masked men were shot, two of them fatally.  It was then that the Sheriff’s deputy, whose name is temporarily being withheld on behalf of family wishes, was fatally shot.

It was only after Sergeant Abernathy ordered her command to stop firing that one of the surviving masked men shouted back that they were ICE agents. Outnumbered by the Sheriff’s Department, the rest of the masked men, all clad in black and carrying no badges or name tags, were taken into custody and charged with murder.

The Hedge family are all natural born American citizens, whose German and Scottish ancestors settled Nebraska in 1856. Mr. Hedge was a 20 year Army veteran, with tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan. His father fought in Vietnam, and his grandfather fought in the European Theater during World War II. An ancestor stood with the Union cause during the Civil War.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you call and write to your local Congressperson “to end the madness.”

NOTE:

This is fiction, but if policies continue to exist as they currently stand, tragedies such as this will become inevitable.
