Idiot Free Zone LLC® is NOT a "liberal" site, or an atheist site, but it is an idiot free site and we will do our best to keep it that way.

So let's define who is an idiot. First we start with the quote that inspired the name to begin with:

An idiot in Athenian democracy was someone who was characterized by self-centeredness and concerned almost exclusively with private as opposed to public affairs.[6] Idiocy was the natural state of ignorance into which all persons were born and its opposite, citizenship, was effected through formalized education.[6] In Athenian democracy, idiots were born and citizens were made through education (although citizenship was also largely hereditary). Declining to take part in public life, such as democraticgovernment of the polis (city state), was considered dishonorable. "Idiots" were seen as having bad judgment in public and political matters. Over time, the term "idiot" shifted away from its original connotation of selfishness and came to refer to individuals with overall bad judgment - individuals who are "stupid".

This is a site for people who are essentially not idiots by BOTH the definitions above. Those who ARE engaged in the "public life" and not "individuals with overall bad judgment - individuals who are "stupid".

So what defines stupid? Well, for our purposes it is someone who is "willfully ignorant". In other words, someone who is in a position to know better, but for whatever reasons, refuses to.

Here we understand what a "fact" is. We recognize the need for "evidence" to back up opinion. We encourage and will always try to use "reason and logic".

What you will not find here; a space where "intelligent design/creationism/young earth theory" is tolerated as a valid position. There is no "controversy" and we refuse to give time to a position that if left unchecked is then used to attack evolution and from there all science, including man made global climate change.

We think diverse takes on life are not only possible, but desirable. That in order to make the world a better place we must be able to at least attempt to see other perspectives. That tolerance is important when attempting to understand the nature of humanity.

We also think that tolerance ends precisely at the point where someone else's intolerance begins. That racism, bigotry, homophobia, misogyny, xenophobia, slavery, genocide and oppression are inexcusable, even under the guise of "religious beliefs". That everyone is free to "believe" whatever they want, as long as it never means someone else's rights are infringed upon. This first and foremost, means keeping ALL religion out of government, everywhere.

We will not be "PC" for its own sake, but will always encourage conversation for grownups. In fact, our motto is; "Intelligent discussion, at the adult table"

We will hopefully be provocative, enlightening, encouraging, infuriating and most of all interesting.

No idiots
