The great deserts of the world – Gobi, Sahara –
Just sit there, wondering why…
For eons, they sit there in the sun,
Absorbing the light from its ray-gun.
For eons, they sit, listless,
Their sands glowing, blowing,
Ever inert and blissless.
Now, they speak:
Man and beast tread over us,
Leaving their engines’ spent fuel.
Few of the feathered fowl bother us;
Over our victims’ carcasses they drool.
Little we do for humanity --
Those masters of the earth –
They, in a frenzy of insanity,
Think little of the globe’s growing dearth.
Some of them see us as answers,
Along with the wind and the waves.
Some of them see us as, “Enhancers;”
But, the mass of them stupidly behaves.
There are windmills; few structures now join us
In absorbing the rays of the sun.
So far, there are too few among us.
The answer: we all work as one.
We deserts can store solar treasure,
That priceless need of the world,
In ever-increasing measure,
Around the earth to be hurled.
So, see us humanity, earthlings,
As the useful patches we are.
Allow us to help in the birthings
Of new life – we are not just a scar.
Come, wake up, you genius world-builders!
Cannot you see what you have wrought?
From angst other breeders and odd curs,
It was you alone who were taught.
Now, use those good lessons for nature;
Make use of our useless sands.
Make, “Solar” the new nomenclature –
Make desert the new, “Helping Hands”!
